Depersonalization Disorder (DPD)

The emergence of DPD in Diane seems to have occurred in response to her parents’ departure from the house. The extended absence of real human contact has begun to affect feelings of detachment and numbness in her. Diane even claims to feel completely detached from her own physical body at times, a key indicator of DPD. We sometimes observe her standing in front of her mirror for long periods of time; when questioned about this, Diane explains that she is trying to recognize herself and to regain a feeling of connection to her body. It is probable that the bathtub incidents (see Footage), her explosive rages (see IED), and other of her OBs are expressions of her subconscious attempts to reunite her mind with her body (see ST in Case History).
